Gould Gallery proudly presents the annual
Small Wonders art exhibit
featuring Marjorie Mason.
The show will
also include new ceramics by Robert Jewett and paintings by Thaw Malin III,
Louisa Gould and Anne Howes in addition to one-of-a-kind jewelry by Rani
Connor. The show will open on Friday November 23rd with an artist
reception from 5 to 7 pm. The exhibit will run until December 23rd.
Marjorie Mason received a BFA from Rhode Island
School of Design. After which she has studied at Pratt and the Cape Cod School
of Art. She has furthered her depth of knowledge collaborating with Master
Printmaker Cheryl Pelavin, master Photogravure Paul Taylor, and Master
Printmaker Kathy Carracio and the late Lois Mailou Jones among others. Marjorie
works primarily in oil and prints. Ms. Mason has had many solo shows on the
island and in New York City. Her work hangs in corporate collections throughout
the country and private collections internationally.
Marjorie will exhibit a new body of small oil paintings started
outdoors and finished in her West Tisbury studio.
Robert Jewett studied pottery with renowned potter
Warren Mackenzie and ceramic sculpture with Curtis Hoard at the University of
Minnesota where he received his M.F.A. in ceramics and sculpture in 1972. Since
then Bob has taught ceramics at St. Paul Academy and Summit School.
He has shown extensively in the Midwest with
shows at the Minneapolis Art Institute and the Tweed Museum.
Bob and his wife Peggy live in Vineyard
Haven.
Thaw Malin III received a MFA from the University of
Georgia. Thaw has painted in a diverse range of mediums over the decades on
Martha’s Vineyard. For this show he has created wonderful plein air oil
paintings of the Vineyard. Thaw paints mostly and dawn and dusk which provide
wonderful palette of colors.
Anne Howes is a member of and serves on the Board of
Directors of the Martha’s Vineyard Art Association where she exhibits her work
in the summer months. Anne holds signature membership in many watercolor
organizations, regional and national, including American Watercolor Society (AWS),
National Watercolor Society (NWS), Philadelphia Water Color Society and many
more. Anne has collected a handful of awards for her delicate yet bold
watercolors. After a lifetime of summers on the island Anne now calls the
Vineyard home. She continues to show her watercolors throughout the country.
In addition
Louisa Gould painted ten new small scenes
especially for this show.
Rani Connor will bring to the island new small
wonders of precious and semi precious jewelry.
