Born and raised in Connecticut, Carol Rowan, resides in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, and has been a longtime friend of the Island. Carol spends much of her time in her summer studio in Maine, at the Eastern Shore on the Chesapeake Bay or travelling to places like Australia, which is the subject of her most recent series. She truly captures the beauty and sense of tranquility in each of her images, canvases or graphite works on paper. Carol has a keen eye for detail, amazing sense of composition, and pristine use of color. Her work is widely collected by both corporate and private collectors, including the late Leonard Andrews who also collected Andrew Wyeth’s work. The gouache on paper, “Still Celebrating II” harkens to the celebration of July 4 ^th here on the Island.

Robert Jewett, a lifelong summer resident of the Vineyard and ceramics teacher in Minnesota, is introducing a new series of glass window sculptures, which he began in 1984 while on sabbatical. Bob has returned to creating these window sculptures on a smaller, more intimate scale. Each of the works framed in maple frames have evolved from Bob’s life on the Vineyard recalling the glass windows in the family home, swimming off West Chop, exploring the sheds of Gannon & Benjamin, discovering his Grandmother’s garden and much more. As Bob states, “the windows capture in visual form the feeling that the Island provokes in me.”

Returning to the Island from her home in New York City, Maya Farber’s new works are exquisitely painted. Her lush landscapes in acrylic depict farm scenes representing all seasons. Maya also has created incredible still lives with finely detailed vases and richly painted flowers and fruit such as “Iris and Tulips.” As Maya describes her work, she often includes household objects and flowers in her images. Her extensive travels and arts background at Pratt Institute and Hunter College, the Hans Hoffman School and Arts Students League have continued to influence her work.

Tim Coy splits his time between the Vineyard and Savannah, two coastal areas, which clearly define his vast array of photographs. After graduating from Yale, Tim studied guitar at the Guitar Society in New York and the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, and continued to hone in on his photography skills. He captures the simple beauty of life at the beach – an osprey nest, blades of sea grass silhouetted against the sunset at Gay Head, a sloop in fog…. Tim’s latest series from the Vineyard will delight all who love this Island.
