PRESS
RELEASE
(Martha’s
Vineyard) Louisa Gould Gallery is pleased to announce our mid-summer
exhibit
“Vineyard
Light: Distinctive Views”
featuring
new works by Jeffrey P’an, Leslie S. Self, Joan Kennedy, and Jeanne
Campbell. The exhibit opens on July 19 and runs through
August 1.
The opening cocktail party will take place on Saturday, July 21, from
6 – 8 pm. Please stop by the opening to meet the artists and to
enjoy light refreshments.
The
gallery welcomes back all four of these artists, who are Islanders,
long-time summer residents and visitors. Each of these artists
brings their own unique approach to capturing the beauty and essence
of the incredible light found here on the Vineyard. Whether it is in
glass, on canvas or in photographs, these artists have masterfully
portrayed the distinctive views that we all love – boats in
harbors, overflowing flowerpots, Aquinnah Cliffs, the Tabernacle in
Oak Bluffs, beach roses & beach scenes and much more.
Jeffrey
P’an returns to the gallery with a wide array of new glassworks
from his studio in Stonington, CT. Jeff has created exciting and
dynamic glass pieces, including a large egg, vases and vessels and an
incredibly complex glass sculpture. All of these new glass pieces
are brightly colored, finely detailed and richly textured. In
particular, there is a pair of pieces, which perfectly balance each
other in color, energy and features.
Island
resident, Leslie S. Self, has once again depicted lush seascapes
filled with beach roses, a striking moon, and picturesque beach
scenes. For this show, Leslie’s works range in scale from small
intimate works to large scale paintings as seen in
Moon
over Bohicket Creek
and
Summer
Evening
.
The viewer can imagine the light summer breezes coming from the
water, the still night air as the moon rises, and the clear, crisp,
blue skies found here on the Vineyard.
Summer
resident, Joan Kennedy delights viewers in her new oil paintings of
harbors, boats and flower pots found on summer porches. All of these
images remind of us our favorite summer pastimes. Joan’s rich use
of color and detail are displayed in her work,
Red
Boat
, where
she incorporates an intense red on the hull of the sailboat, the
gentle folds of the sail, reflections in the water, and the faint
images in the background.
Another
summer resident, Jeanne Campbell returns to the gallery with a new
selection of photographs from the Vineyard, her much adored Island.
Jeanne has recently begun using a fish eye lens and has found that
she can capture scenes, which she never has before. As Jeanne
states, “I have been photographing for many years, yet I am excited
when I find a new way of seeing, of expanding and interpreting my
world.” Like the other artists in this exhibit, Jeanne has truly
portrayed distinctive views of the Island that remind us as viewers
of the unique memories here.
We
look forward to seeing you on Saturday, July 21 from 6 – 8 pm at
the opening of
“Vineyard
Light: Distinctive Views.”
This
exhibit is being held simultaneously with the exhibit
