th
and runs through July 31
st
.
The opening reception will take place on Saturday, August 3
rd
from 5 – 7 pm. Please stop by to meet the artists, view the show,
and enjoy light refreshments.
This
exhibition includes works on canvas both in acrylic and oil by four
artists who have shown with the gallery for years. The works in
Transcendence
reflect
images that transcend time -- children playing on the beach,
seascapes, farm scenes, and florals. Each of these artists brings
refreshing, dynamic and captivating new images to this show.
From Rhode
Island, Kate Huntington returns to the Island with a collection of
new beach scenes that will delight all viewers. Especially known for
her richly painted surfaces, Kate has truly captured the spirit and
character of her figures in these paintings. In
Critters
,
one gets a glimpse into the curious nature of the three children who
are glancing into the brightly colored orange pail. While in another
work, you get the sense of chill and thrill as a boy enters the
water. One can imagine joining these children and families at South
Beach or another favorite beach along the Island. Kate’s use of
bright colors, loose brushstrokes and playful depictions of figures
are all signature elements of her works.
For over
twenty five years, Paul Beebe from Connecticut has visited the
Vineyard for summer vacations with his family and friends. Paul
draws his inspiration from the Island, its rich history and beauty,
and captures this in his maritime works. For this show, Paul has
created several new oil paintings of traditional seascapes of Katama
that were started from sketches on location, as well as his new work
depicting Classic Sloops racing in the Vineyard Sound. Paul is a
signature member of The American Society of Marine Artists and a
member in the Martha’s Vineyard Art Association.
As a long
time visitor, Maya Farber comes back with a wealth of new acrylics on
canvas including her memorable farm scenes and still lifes. In
Maya’s work,
Martha’s
Vineyard Barn
, she captures the
true essence of one of the iconic images of a barn here off Old
County Road. In another work,
Ready
for Canning
, Maya depicts
images of everyday items like ball jars and glass Coca Cola bottles
that have clearly transcended time and continue to be recognizable to
all. Her warm palette and attention to detail are evident in both
styles of her new paintings.
Back again
for the summer from Florida, Ellen Liman returns to Chilmark and
joins the other artists for this mid-Summer show. Ellen’s bright
and colorful paintings of her favorite scenes here and afar, beaches,
flowers, gardens, and harbors will enchant all. Ellen has painted
here on the Island for over twenty years and enjoys portraying the
simple pleasures of summer in her paintings. Her works display a
strong use of intense color with light and carefree brushstrokes that
create engaging images.
