Artist Statement : Jack  Yuen (25) was born and raised on the island of Martha’s Vineyard and is a graduate from the Rhode Island School of Design. Yuen has been drawing and painting since he was a young boy on the island. Alongside his passion for art has always been a fascination with wildlife and nature. Yuen creates work that aims to capture the character and spirit of Martha’s Vineyard’s unique landscape and ecological features. Within his paintings, he reflects an internal sense of connection to the subjects through color and an imagined perspective. Yuen’s work allows us to reflect on the potential that nature on the island has to offer. Jack Yuen encourages conservation and greater awareness of the ecology and biodiversity of the island, using art as a means of inspiring the “ecomind”.
